Guard E.S. Pollard covered himself with glory and mud yesterday. A pair of horses pulling an ice wagon ran away down the East Midway and would have run over a 6 year old girl had not Pollard, who was off duty at the time, dashed in and rescued her when she was almost under the feet of the horses.
