'The Meaning of Names' (2014) by Karen Gettert Shoemaker is Omaha's Omaha Reads book selection for 2014.
Shoemaker will present at The German-American Society, 3717 S. 120th St., in the South Hall. She will discuss her book, and copies will be available for purchase and signing following a Q&A session. This free event is open to the public. Refreshments will be provided.
Omaha Reads is a campaign that promotes literacy and provide the city with a common theme to discuss. One book is selected each year and celebrated with book discussions, author visits, and related programs and events.
Shoemaker's debut novel 'The Meaning of Names' is a consuming tale of one family's confrontation with the violence and hatred that swept across America during the First Great War of Peace.
Shoemaker resides in Lincoln, Neb. and mentors young writers through the University of NebraskaLincolns Master of Fine Arts in Writing program.
