In
collaboration with Juneteenth Nebraska, Charles B. Washington Branch, 2868 Ames Ave., will host its 10th annual June
Family Fair, a Juneteenth celebration, on Saturday, June 9, 1-5 p.m. The day
will feature live music, refreshments and family activities.
Families can look forward to a fun time with bounce
houses, clowns, face painting and balloon animals for the kids; snow cones,
popcorn, cotton candy, and hot dogs for everyone. Special presentations are
scheduled throughout the day.

3:15 p.m. Juneteenth Flag Raising
Sniffy from the Metropolitan Utility District will
be there, too! Sniffy is a lovable dinosaur, the Sniffasaurus,
who delights people of all ages wherever he goes while teaching the importance
of natural gas safety. Information from the following community organizations
will also be available: Douglas County Health Department, Enough Is Enough,
Omaha Serves, The Empowerment Network, Banister's Leadership Academy, Eastern
Nebraska Community Action Program, Butler-Gast YMCA, Neighborhood Action and
Facts, A1 Health Services, Malcolm X Memorial Foundation, North Omaha
Neighborhood Alliance, Juneteenth Nebraska, and the Omaha Police Department.

Ferguson Cavanaugh, Charles B. Washington Branch manager. “The annual Family
Fair is a way to highlight the incredible resources available right here in our
own neighborhood!"
Juneteenth
originated in 1865 and observes June 19 as Emancipation Day, the oldest known
celebration commemorating the end of slavery in the United States. Omaha Public
Library’s June Family Fair emphasizes freedom, education and achievement, and
promotes the rich history of the Omaha community.
The event is free for the enjoyment of all ages and
is sponsored by the Omaha Public Library Foundation and Friends of Omaha Public
