Omaha Public Library Citywide Celebration Saturday, February 13

Omaha Public Library Citywide Celebration Saturday, February 13
February 08, 2010

Omaha Public Library (OPL) will reveal a new logo and website at free neighborhood open house celebrations at all 12 locations from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 13. The pre-Valentine’s Day, all-ages parties will include entertainment, storytelling, refreshments and a few big surprises. Omaha won’t want to miss this chance to see what’s new at OPL and “fall in love” with the Library all over again.

“We want the people in our community to see that there’s more to love at Omaha Public Library than many even know about,” said OPL Executive Director Gary Wasdin. “This free, citywide open house is a wonderful way for Omahans of all ages to get reacquainted with the Library and celebrate all it has to offer.”

In addition to all of Omaha Public Library’s daily offerings, a variety of festivities will take place at each of the Library branches, including the following:

  • Milton R. Abrahams Branch (5111 N. 90th St.) will offer musical entertainment by the Heartland Harmonizers, clowns and face painting.
  • Benson Branch (6015 Binney St.) will entertain neighbors with a scavenger hunt, coloring contest and gift card prizes.
  • Bess Johnson Elkhorn Branch (2100 Reading Plaza) will celebrate with a “wild west” theme. Visitors will enjoy craft activities, a costume contest, the Heartland Hoedowners clogging group, western cowboy music and Woodridge Wildcat Singers.
  • Florence Branch (2920 Bondesson) will offer a drawing for a gift basket and music by jazz funk, rhythm and blues artist George Walker.
  • Millard Branch (13214 Westwood Ln.) will present George Walker’s guitar music, a storytime, free chair massages, performances by high school musicians, and clowns.
  • Saddlebrook Branch (14850 Laurel Ave.) will feature Magician Jeff Quinn, Maisy the Mouse and face painting.
  • A.V. Sorensen Branch (4808 Cass St.) visitors will enjoy music by Robert Glaser, storytimes and face painting.
  • South Omaha Library (2808 Q. St.) will feature a storytime, music and Grandpa G. the Clown.
  • W. Clarke Swanson Branch (9101 W. Dodge Rd.) neighbors will be captivated with both classical and jazz musical duos, dancing and martial arts demonstrations and family storytimes.
  • Charles B. Washington Branch (2868 Ames Ave.) will offer a genealogy workshop for African Americans, a magic show by Jeff Quinn and a swing choir performance.
  • Willa Cather Branch (1905 S. 44th St.) neighbors will enjoy musical performances by area schools, a magician and face painting.
  • W. Dale Clark (Main) Library (215 S. 15th St.) visitors will “love” the movies, storytimes, Valentine’s Day crafts, genealogy tour, free photo booth and computer class.

All branches will be distributing brand new Omaha Public Library cards and offering new website tours, temporary tattoos and refreshments.
