Writer, poet, rock’n roller to speak at Omaha Public Library

Jaime Adoff, the critically acclaimed author of both children’s and young adult books, will share stories of his life as a writer/poet/rock'n roller, talk about his books, and do book signings on May 15, 6:30 p.m., Omaha Public Library’s Benson Branch, 2918 N. 60th St.

Adoff’s first young adult novel, “Names Will Never Hurt Me” (2004), was almost instantly a must-have for teens around the country. In 2005 it made the New York Public Library’s Books for the Teen Age list, and was nominated for the American Library Association’s Best Books for Young Adults list. His latest novel, “Jimi & Me” (2005) was the recipient of the 2006 Coretta Scott King/John Steptoe New Talent Author Award and has been called “an exceptional story and a tremendous addition to any collection” by VOYA magazine. Jaime's much-anticipated YA novel, “The Death of Jayson Porter,” will be released this week.

Jaime Adoff holds a degree in music, pursued a career in songwriting and fronted his own rock band for eight years before turning to writing books. He is a highly sought-after speaker, presenting across the country on teen issues, diversity, YA literature and poetry. His rock’n roll school visits have been knocking the socks off students and teachers alike for years. He is the son of the late Newbery Award-winning author Virginia Hamilton and renowned poet Arnold Adoff. For more information visit jaimeadoff.com.

Omaha Public Schools provided funding for this visit and the Bookworm bookstore will provide books for purchase. A book signing will follow.
