TEENS CAN GET THE WORD OUT AT MONTHLY POETRY SLAM

Expression is powerful and students in grades 9-12 have the opportunity to express themselves and entertain their peers at the High School Ink Slingers’ Slam, a monthly poetry slam held on third Tuesdays at Omaha Public Library’s W. Clarke Swanson Branch, 9101 W. Dodge Rd. Each month an accomplished poet presents a workshop from 5-5:45 p.m. and the slam begins at 6 p.m. Refreshments are served. The next opportunity for teens to be heard is March 18.

This event is free and open to all high school students. The first six poets to sign up at each slam are guaranteed a spot to perform, with 6-8 others chosen by a lottery system. There are two rounds with a three minute time limit for each poet. Poets must read only their own original works. The winner takes home a rotating trophy.
