Boomerang Books Will Zoom Omaha Public Library materials straight to Customers’ Doors

With gas prices hovering around $4 per gallon, Omaha Public Library customers may want to take advantage of a gas-saving and timesaving new service called Boomerang Books that begins on July 23.

In partnership with the U.S. Postal Service, Omaha Public Library is offering customers the convenience of having items sent directly to their home for a small fee of $2.50 per item. Each time a customer places an item on hold, this “Mail It” option will be available. When an item is checked out using Boomerang Books, charges will be automatically posted to the customer’s account as “Boomerang Books fee.”

This service is available to any Omaha Public Library cardholder, age 14 or older, with an account in good standing (owing less than $25 in fines or fees). Delivery within Omaha zip codes should occur within a couple of days. Other areas are subject to normal mail delivery periods. Each item will arrive with a due-date slip. Customers may return items to any Omaha Public Library location, either by coming into the Library or by using the book drops available 24/7. They may also choose to mail the items back by reusing the postal service envelope and paying the return postage.

Omaha Public Library Executive Director Rivkah Sass said, “Very few libraries are offering a service like this! It is a great partnership with the U.S. Postal Service, and it provides our busy customers with an option for getting items sent to them quickly and easily.”

To support and promote this new service, the Outback Steakhouse located at 7605 Cass St. has provided coupons for a free “Bloomin’ Onion” to the first 1000 customers that request Boomerang Books.
