January 30, 2008 Library celebrates Black History Month |

Black History Month honors the past and present achievements of African Americans. Established in 1976 by African Americans for the study of African American life and history, Black History Month is an expansion of Negro History Week which was established in 1926 by Carter Woodson. The theme for this year is “Carter G. Woodson and the Origins of Multiculturalism.” Omaha Public Library will observe Black History Month with the following events. Black History in film, a weekly film series Children’s Book Giveaway, Feb. 9, 11-5:30 p.m. The exhibit and programs are free. Omaha Public Library houses an extensive collection of materials by and about African Americans.
