Omaha Public Library A.V. Sorensen Branch’s last day for business will be Saturday, Feb. 2. The branch will remain closed for the next six months while it is being remodeled. Since 1976, Omaha Public Library has served the citizens of Dundee and the surrounding area with the A. V. Sorensen Branch located in the Community Center at 4808 Cass St. The new construction was designed by Bahr, Vermeer and Haecker Architects, Ltd. who designed the original building. The project includes a refurbished elevator and redesigned library. Renovation of the branch library housed on the upper floor of the 32-year-old, brick and steel structure is scheduled for completion in late summer of 2008. When the project is complete, the library branch will house a computer lab with eight work stations, a separate glass-walled teen center with three computer stations, a new window and window seat in the children’s area, a new service desk, new lighting, new carpeting and fresh paint. In addition, the east entrance of the recreation center will be made more accessible to handicapped users. While the A.V. Sorensen Branch is closed, library customers are invited to use one of Omaha Public Library’s 10 other locations. The libraries nearest to A.V. Sorensen Branch are: Benson Branch, 2918 N. 60th St.; W. Clarke Swanson Branch, 90th & W. Dodge Rd.; Willa Cather Branch, 44th & Center St.; and W. Dale Clark Library, 215 S. 15th St. Funding for the project is provided by the City of Omaha’s Capital Improvement Program (CIP) Lease Purchase Fund.
