Primed for “Prime Time Family Reading®”

Every culture has passed down lessons on social virtues from one generation to the next through the tradition of storytelling. North and south Omaha families with children six years old and up are invited to recreate a similar tradition at Prime Time Family Reading®, a free six-week program designed to help parents and children read together and talk about stories with life lessons.

Omaha Public Library’s South Branch offers a bilingual Prime
    Time series in Spanish and English.
  • South Branch will hold the first five sessions at Spring Lake Magnet Center, 4215 So. 20th St.;
    6 to 8 p.m. Mondays, Oct. 22 through Nov. 19. The final session on Nov. 26 will be held at South Branch, 2302 M St. Dinner will be served each week. Register online at omahapubliclibrary.org or call 444-4850.
  • Charles B. Washington Branch, 2868 Ames Ave. offers the series on Saturdays, 10 a.m. to noon, now through November 17. Breakfast will be served each week. Register online at omahapubliclibrary.org or call 444-4849.

Small children are welcome and special activities are planned for them. Transportation to and from the meetings will be available for those who make prior arrangements with the Prime Time location of their choice.

Families can ask for a free Early Literacy Calendar while supplies last. The information-packed calendar is loaded with tips on how to start children on the path to lifelong reading from the moment of birth.

This year’s PRIME TIME events are sponsored by Nebraska Humanities Council, Omaha Public Library Foundation, Friends of Omaha Public Library, State of Nebraska, Nebraska Library Commission, Mutual of Omaha Foundation, Lincoln Financial Foundation, and the Omaha Community Foundation.
