Families are invited to cozy up for “Christmas with Laura Ingalls Wilder,” a Chautauqua portrayal of Wilder presented by Betty Jean Steinshouer, 2:30 p.m., Dec. 16, Omaha Public Library’s W. Dale Clark Library, 215 S. 15th St. Wilder, the beloved author who made publishing history by selling over a million copies of her book series for children, is remembered for her Christmas stories during the holiday season. As described on her website, Ms. Steinshouer is one of America’s few full-time Chautauqua presenters and a seasoned scholar of her subjects. She tours year-round and has spent decades perfecting her characters with ongoing research and adaptation. Each presentation is unique to its audience. Funded by a grant from the Nebraska Humanities Council, “Christmas with Laura Ingalls Wilder” is among dozens of activities to be held downtown during the Wells Fargo sponsored Family Festival. Events at Omaha Public Library’s downtown location on the mall will include holiday music by the Omaha Symphony String Quartet at 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. and holiday magic by Jeff Quinn. There will also be a dress-up corner for kids furnished by the Rose Theatre, animal balloons, clowns, face painting and cookie decorating. Olley the Trolley will provide free rides to six downtown locations. Omaha Public Library programs are free and open to everyone.
