Omaha Public Library launches Los Clasicos Intergenerational Book Club

It's no secret that sharing great stories can be rich and entertaining.

Starting today, Omaha Public Library is inviting families to join its new Los Clasicos Intergenerational Book Club.

Omaha's Latino families in particular are encouraged to participate in the free events to read and talk about books that deal with family life, love, home, growing up and growing older.

The club is designed for kids 6th through 8th grade, their parents, grandparents and other relatives. All families are invited.

Initially the meetings will be held every month at three locations:

  • Third Wednesdays, beginning Sept. 19, 5 to 6 p.m., OPL's Charles B. Washington Branch, 2868 Ames Ave., 444-4849
  • Second Thursdays, beginning Sept 13, 4:05 to 5:05 p.m., Castelar Elementary School, 2316 S. 18th St., 344-7794
  • Second Saturdays, beginning Oct. 13, 11 a.m. to Noon, El Museo Latino, 4701 S. 25th St., 731-1137

Ten copies of selected book titles, in both Spanish and English, will be available at each location. There is no charge for participation. Refreshments will be provided. Stop by or call to register.

Los Clasicos Intergenerational Book Club is supported in part by the Library Services and Technology Act, administered by the federal Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), granted and administered by the Nebraska Library Commission. Additional funding is provided by Friends of Omaha Public Library.
