Families are invited to gather at Omaha Public Library to catch a little holiday spirit and enjoy lots of fun activities.

Thursday, Dec. 20, 2-4 p.m.
Holiday open house with seasonal refreshments.

Get into the holiday spirit! Sit back, relax and enjoy music by Stan Harper on saxophone. Refreshments will be served.

Jazz guitarist George Walker brings the holiday spirit alive. Mr. Walker has performed all over Europe, especially Germany where he is a favorite in the jazz clubs of Hamburg.

It’s warm, it’s free and it provides a fabulous view. All four floors will be open for viewing the First National Bank Fireworks, scheduled to start at 7 p.m. The fourth level will be reserved for the elderly and handicapped.
The Lite 101.9 KLTQ broadcast of live music on the mall and Mayor Fahey’s presentation will be simultaneously broadcast inside the Library. Omaha Public Library’s prairie dog mascot, Scamper, will make live appearances for the kids. Everyone is invited to check out videos, DVDs, CDs and books before they head home.
Plenty of on-street and garage parking will be available, but early arrival is recommended to get the best views in the house.

Thursday, Dec. 27, 6-9 p.m. Kwanzaa Celebration

Families from all over the city are encouraged to attend Omaha Public Library’s Annual Kwanzaa Celebration, honoring African Americans and Omaha’s cultural diversity. The evening’s activities include entertainment by the African Cultural Connection, a Kwanzaa candle lighting ceremony, dinner, and poetry and story readings.

Libraries are amazing resources for learning about different cultures and what better time to get acquainted than the holidays? Omaha Public Library has thousands of holiday books, audio books, videos and more available for free checkout to Omaha Public Library cardholders. These library events are free and open to everyone. The holiday music series is sponsored by Friends of Omaha Public Library and the Omaha Public Library Foundation.
