Patrick Avenue saw a great deal of damage. This scene from 29th & Patrick shows the utter devastation. Boards from houses are everywhere. There is even what appears to be a coat in the upper branches of a tree on the far right.
Within 2 hours help had arrived in most areas. All ambulances, taxis and hearses were put to use. Dawn on the 24th of March revealed that the dead numbered 100.The total later reached 140 persons killed.
