TORNADO OF MARCH 23, 1913 |
A young woman in a long coat surveys the damage wreaked by the Easter Tornado at 26th & Parker streets. Wood framed homes are in shambles but an armchair sits neatly on the front lawn.
The Easter Tornado cut a path diagonally through Omaha from its southwestern edge at 60th & Center streets northeast to Carter Lake, Iowa. Destruction touched the lives of all citizens both rich and poor. The storm damage totaled nearly 9 million dollars. Two thousand homes were heavily damaged and another 800 were leveled. Approximately 2300 people were left homeless by the tornado.
