FLOOD OF APRIL 1881 |
This view of the flood is looking north up 9th Street from the top of the Union Pacific Headquarters building located at 9th & Farnam. The Union Pacific Railyard Shops are seen in the distance.
The twin stacks of a steamboat are visible in the upper right quadrant of the photo. Steamers coming upstream on the Missouri needed to refuel. Steamboats anchored near the Transfer Hotel in Council Bluffs across the river and loaded coal from the railroad’s supply.
