The Henry W. Yates mansion was located at 3120 Davenport Street. It was a Victorian style structure with 30 rooms situated on a 2-acre lot. Construction was completed in 1889. Access to the home was provided by cable car – which stopped 5 blocks away with the rest of the distance to be covered on horseback!
Mr. Yates (1837-1915) made his fortune in banking, first as cashier of the First National Bank and then, from 1882, as co-founder and president of the Nebraska National Bank. Mr. Yates was involved in many social and commercial organizations such as the Omaha Club and the State Bankers Association. His fine stone mansion was renowned as a “constant center of refined and generous hospitality.”
