Omaha Public Statement on Unattended Children

Summary:
Privileges and responsibilities for children and parents at all Omaha Public Library Locations.

The Omaha Public Library welcomes children to use its facilities and services. However, responsibility for children using the library rests with the parent/guardian or assigned chaperone, not with library personnel.

Children, under the age of six, should not be left unattended in the library. We ask that the responsible party remain within sight of the child. If the child is attending a storytime, the responsible party should remain in the building.

Parents are responsible for children's behavior. Library staff cannot assume liability for children's safety and behavior. Parents will be contacted if any children under the age of six are left unattended in any Omaha Public Library building.

Please help us in providing a fun and entertaining place for children while remembering that libraries are busy public facilities.
